We are a family of five, including our furry son. We moved into a new home and wanted to create an aesthetically pleasing space, especially for my Father-in-law, who lives with us. As a family, we want to make memories in our living room, so turning this space into a functional one was imperative. I was looking for a twist in the living room - something traditional, a dash of transitional along with a hint of French design theme.
Maria Castillero
Originally from Mexico, Maria's goal is to transform spaces into beautiful rooms where people feel joy. Her design aesthetic is clean lines, neutral tones, pops of color and lots of plants. She has a deep appreciation for modern eclectic and mid-century minimalist designs.
Design Brief
When we moved into our new home, I wanted the living room to feel inviting, warm and functional. The living room is where we want to create memories that last for a lifetime. When I expressed my vision to Maria, she was thrilled and so positive about giving me what I wanted. I chose a traditional theme along with transitional and French styles, and Maria, a talented designer, came up with so many ideas that it was really hard to choose, considering they were all so perfect! Since we have a fireplace mantle, I wanted to make the most of it – decorating it through all the seasons and holidays, and magically: she made sure I got it. Maria also incorporated poufs for storage and extra seating for my guests’ comfort; she also incorporated side tables and worked so well around my existing mirror and couch, as requested. I am so lucky to have found Maria and Spacejoy. This team has made my vision of a picture-perfect living room come true.
Watching Design Experts at Work
Watching the Spacejoy team work together was a great experience. I never for a second thought that what I had in my mind could actually come true. Maria and the team were spontaneous and quick. They worked on point with choosing the perfect neutral colors that I wanted in my living room and focused on making my space functional and entertaining for the family. The living room which the team created was mind-blowing, straight out of a fairy-tale book. My family and I love our living room, so much so that most of the time, we never feel the need to go to another room to relax. The best part of all this was how she included the mirror above the mantle. This made the room spacious and brighter.

Using the Spacejoy App to Experience Designs in 3D
When Maria told me about the 3D concept, I was slightly skeptical about how a room can be presented to me without actually placing the required décor or furniture in place. But, when I saw the concepts uploaded, I got goosebumps! This 3D experience gave me a better perspective before purchasing the products, and that was a plus point, especially when it is my first time with online interior designing.
