It has been a while since I redecorated and I was looking for something fresh for my living room. I went in with an open mind, treating it as an empty canvas, and I was excited to see how it would be transformed - my only requirement, the room had to rate high in style and comfort. I wanted the living room to have ‘Hollywood like’ glitz and glamour but with clean lines and a sleek finish.

Design Brief

The living room needed to have a relaxed vibe because it's where I go to relax and literally put my feet up. I have my little doggo with me, so the design had to be 'pet-friendly' with enough space for my little guy. As per my design idea, I thought a sectional with deep seating would work best for the area, and while I didn't have any particular color in mind, I was leaning towards neutral shades and earthy tones from the very beginning. While leather would be an ideal choice for furniture as it is best for cleaning, I'm vegan, so we had to explore other options. This room is connected to the kitchen - It's great for having guests and family over. It also means that the overall look and feel has to have that 'WOW' factor. My kitchen is gray, so pops of bright color would work best for the living room. When it comes to picking a design style, Art Deco / Hollywood, along with Modern Minimalist, were my 'go-to'. I couldn’t wait to see how the two could be combined to make one cohesive design concept.

Watching Design Experts at Work

Ellysia blew my mind, right from the get-go! She considered all my inputs and came up with designs that were perfect for me. The most important thing was that she understood my needs. Especially with the furniture selection, she came up with great alternatives to leather that would work just as well for the room without compromising on the fashion and style aspect. The modernist wood and lacquer media console from West Elm, the White Marble Milan Accent table from World Market, and the chair from Article were great additions. They blend beautifully with the decor themes that I had proposed - the right amount of Hollywood glam with a modern-minimalist twist! The other decor items like Orange blush area rug from Wayfair and the decorative wall mirror from Overstock did their bit to bring in the pops of color that I so wanted. The brass floor lamp from West Elm and the Velvet Ottoman from All Modern were kitsch and whimsically beautiful.

Designer Notes

Hi Jaqueline, This design incorporates your TV being placed above the fireplace and your existing side table and coffee table in the design. Art deco style was kept at the forefront of this design through mirrored, and glassed accents paired with your existing pieces, and a sectional was incorporated for comfort. Additional seating is created behind the sectional for the other area to entertain guests. Earth tones have been included through the artwork, counter stools and sectional and pops of blue are accented through the furnishings. I hope you love your designs.

Using the Spacejoy App to Experience my Designs in 3D

I’ve decorated my home in the past, taking inspiration from Pinterest, Instagram, and other online sources - but this was awesome on another level. The process was so easy and so smooth. After I shared my design thoughts, Ellysia shared two renditions of it on the 3D App. Each version had unique features of its own. The fact that I can literally experience my living room before shopping for products is pretty amazing. I also loved the interactive nature of the App - it was like I was involved in the design process, and it made me feel invested in the project from the start.

This is what Jacqueline had to say on the final design

Joyous Homes, Happy Customer

I went into this wanting a style upgrade, and the results exceeded my expectations. By the end of the session, my room did not just look brand new, but it felt like it too! The style element was not overlooked, but my favorite thing was that I could feel comfortable and be myself in there. The decor was so chic, and every element had a space of its own. I think my dog and I are going to love spending time here, and not to mention everyone else who will get to enjoy this stunning living room.
