I bought the white version of this shelf last year and loved it. We just got the black version for another room and while it looks nice, this time there is a very strong chemical smell. We’ve had it out of the box for a couple of days and it’s still quite strong. I can even smell it from three rooms away. I’m really disappointed.

I’ve had these shelves for four years and am still obsessed with them. I rearrange items on the shelves. The one warning to share is don’t pile on too much weight, as one shelf seemed to have chipped the paint on my wall.

I couldn't be any happier with this purchase. Perfect for small apartments, looks classy and well built. Easy to assemble too!

Similar to some of the other reviews noted, we were disappointed in the quality in this new version. Compared to our two older shelves (the computer desk one plus this same 24.5" bookcase), the shelves did not properly line up with the wall. We tested by moving our old shelf over to where this one is, and it lined up perfectly with the wall. In summary - looks ok from far away but not great when you get up close.

The bookshelf is chic! Is there any issues with using this bookshelf outside?

We purchased several sawyer bookshelves and desks for our kids’ rooms about 2 years ago and have been very happy with them. We were excited to get something similar for our family room but what showed up was much lower quality than the product we ordered 2 years ago. The wood is nicked, the decorative lines don’t always extend all the way to the front, and the provided wood pegs for assembly are far too small and we had to go purchase new ones at the hardware store. And the delivery took 1.5 months longer than originally estimated, although that’s not unusual with COVID. We love Crate and Barrel and have always had good luck with their products in the past. This seems like a miss though.

I bought these to replace old leaning shelves. This shelf looks better in person! Modern with clean lines, it totally elevated my living room. Takes a little muscle (heavy) but I assembled it alone.

The bookcase looks great in the picture and in theory should be easy to assembly. However, the screw placement is super awkward and they should have used hex screws with a hex rather than a phillips. Recommend hiring someone to assemble.

I have three of these, two in larger size and one in smaller and I love them. They make our living room look elegant, and that there is so much open space gives its a modern and sleek look.
