These are gorgeous & such a modern update to the typical silver flatware. I was so excited to upgrade my place-settings with them, but the problems began almost immediately. A fork within the set arrived with the black finish not applied to the side - I emailed customer service & they quickly sent me a replacement. But things got worse from there… today just about every piece is rusty. I have to fish through the rusty mess every time I want to use a utensil - which is a regular reminder of what a poor purchase this was. I love the look of the black flatware, but these are way too high-maintenance & ultimately DO NOT maintain.

I received these off of my wedding registry and was excited because I even looked at them in the store first. Photos below are straight from dishwasher and individually trying to clean them - they still look like this. After only washing them one time and starting to use them they are all discolored with stains watermarks and other issues. I followed all instructions and put them in the dishwasher with very gentle natural soap and they should not have happened. Very frustrating

They are not truly black, but a weird dark grey. Don’t look at all like what I was expecting

In the photos I thought they were a solid matte black, but they’re a chrome rainbow black

I bought these less than one week ago and they have already rusted after two times in the dishwasher (we followed all the rules, ie no citrus dish washing soap). I’m really disappointed, we thought these were beautiful and matched our bowls/plates. The color is almost an iridescent black which was so unique. Unfortunately after they go in the dishwasher they show lots of fingerprints, water spots, and rust. I would’ve expected much better from Crate and Barrel, we have so many other products from here that we love!

This is a beautiful alternative to the standard silver. I have a contemporary home that is mostly white and this flatware looks amazing next to my marble counters and with dishes. Just make sure you use Jetdry in your dishwasher to avoid spots.

We bought the 20 piece set because these look super stylish and we wanted a utensil upgrade. After one round in the dishwasher there is rust on the inside of the fork prongs. They also get water spots super easily- I do not have to to hand wash and dry my everyday utensils. I will have to return these.

Unfortunately these are not any where near a matte black, but more of a high shine gun metal. Also, not great quality or heft for the price, will be returning.

I have always been wanting to have black flatwares to compliment my black set of plates, but these flatwares are nothing but a huge disappointment. The color starts fading off after hand washes in less than 10 times. I could tolerate the water stains after the drying but not the fading color that progressively turns into silver ware.

Please save yourself the hassle/time and do not purchase this set. Positives - I liked the color and thought it would go well with my dinning set. Negatives - Unfortunately, this set is terrible quality as it started rusting after the 2nd wash! I just bought this set on Father's Day weekend (~2 wks ago) and they were washed in a new KitchenAid dishwasher. I am very disappointed as this is not an acceptable quality standard for Crate & Barrel. To top it all off, flatware cannot be returned after it is washed, so again, do not buy this set!

Super happy with these, always get compliments on them. No issues with fading or water marks personally and I have three sets. The colour is hard to make out online but they’re shiny black.
