Edward View's "Ribera" is inspired by a flight he took over fields of farmland blanketed in snow. The snow-covered fields "reflected the moonlight vividly, contrasting with dark islands of forest," the artist recalls. Applying expressive layers of acrylics to the canvas, View uses both a palette knife and brushes to create an abstract aerial view. The contrasting dark hues and washed whites lend depth and drama, capturing the nighttime scene's tonal beauty. Reproduced here to emulate the artist's original techniques. Presented in a matte black frame that can be hung vertically or horizontally.
Edward View is a Montreal-based artist who draws on architecture, infrastructure and the city he lives in to create his modern art. "I enjoy exploring new mediums and taking geometry and iconography from one medium and moving them to another."
