Up for auction is a gorgeous walnut Paalman tea cart ca. 1930's. Paalman Furniture Company, Grand Rapids MI, is widely known to most as the premier tea cart manufacturer and the "drop handle" feature of their carts patented in 1918 (also, the handle adjusts to any position that suits you.) Needless to say, other furniture manufacturers mimicked this feature years later... This particular cart features a rich walnut grain, serving tray with thick walnut handles and original wavy glass, 16" spoked artillery wheels and 4 3/8" front pivot wheels (rubber trim/tread on all 4 wheels is in great condition and rolls around perfectly), 11" x 11" x 1.5" deep purple velvet lined utensil drawer, and a lower serving shelf with raised trim on three sides. Note the beautiful and pronounced scalloped edge of the drop leaves. Leaves are supported by a patent applied for metal spring loaded bar. Unsurpassed quality and the condition/appearance is superb only noting a few minor spots of finish loss on the lower shelf. The dimensions are: 29 3/4" height with tray and 28 1/4" without tray; 29" long including handle x 16" wide leaves down / 17" width at the wheels; tabletop is 38 1/2" wide x 25" with leaves erect; weight is 33 lbs.
