Named after the California nurseryman Charles Amate, this fast-growing houseplant is also known as Umbrella Tree. Schefflera Amate (Schefflera actinophylla) appreciates a warm, humid environment, though this variety is more tolerant of dry air than some of its counterparts. It likes a good amount of water unless placed in lower light conditions, in which case its metabolism slows and it becomes sensitive to overwatering.
