Handwoven by skilled weavers, New Zealand wool–cotton blend rug pays homage to an original 1969 tapestry by Los Angeles artist Evelyn Ackerman. Recreated here as a super-fine woven rug, the original tapestry was selected for the Pasadena Art Museum's annual California Design exhibition to exemplify the importance of good creative design. CB2 exclusive.
Detroit natives Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman founded ERA Industries in 1956. For 50 years, the Los Angeles-based couple played a central role in shaping the California midcentury modern movement. The Ackermans' first woven tapestry was featured on the cover of the Los Angeles Times Home Magazine in 1957. Presented in collaboration with Ackerman Modern, the pieces in this collection recreate the couple's iconic midcentury designs using original drawings and archival photographs.
