We're a busy, active family of five navigating full-time remote work and homeschooling since March. Our home is at the heart of our daily lives, so we need spaces that balance function and style. The seating area off the kitchen, part of an open dining and living room, requires a thoughtful design upgrade. This space should be welcoming for family gatherings, game nights, and casual work, but not for lounging, as we have a separate family room for that. We’ve tried rearranging the furniture multiple times without success and need a solution that feels just right.

Design Brief

The goal is to create a space that looks like an adult room yet can withstand daily use by young children (ages 3, 5, and 6). The design should prioritize comfort, durability, and ample space for movement. We want a stylish, functional layout that integrates seamlessly with the open dining and living area. The space must be low maintenance for our busy lifestyle and built to handle the wear and tear of active kids. Comfort, style, and resilience are essential to make this high-use space a practical and inviting part of our home.

Watching Design Experts at Work

My designer completely nailed my style on the first try, far exceeding my expectations. I thought I’d need a few revisions, but Laura got it perfect from the start. I’m already excited to use Spacejoy again when we’re ready to redesign the Master Bedroom!

Designer Notes

For the first concept, we work on filling the room in an appropriate amount. We'll add in a coffee table, which will have a large top- perfect for board games or playing with toys. Large storage baskets under the console will be great for hiding toys. A console table behind the sofa will add in a spot for storage ottomans (great for extra seating and for storing toys) and a place to house lighting (we can run chords under the rug). The rug is a ruggable option- which can be picked up and thrown in the washer if there are any stains. We'll also add a small bench on the side with more baskets and plenty of greenery (both faux and real) to keep the space feeling lively.

Using the Spacejoy App to Experience Designs in 3D

This immersive experience gave me confidence in the design choices, making it feel as though I was standing in the completed room before any changes were even made. The app truly brought my vision to life and made the design process both exciting and tangible.

Photorealistic images or 3D renders

he attention to detail was so precise that it felt like I was looking at photographs of my home post-transformation. From the textures of fabrics to the way light played across the room, the renders captured every element with impressive accuracy.

Joyous Homes, Happy Customer

Blown Away! I just received my designs from Spacejoy and am blown away! I never expected the renders to look so realistic (if only my house was this clean in real life). I already had the bulk of my furniture; but needed to tie it all together after going through a remodel this fall and was getting stuck on lighting and all the details. My designer nailed my style. I honestly expected to go through a few revisions before landing on the right design but Laura nailed it on the first concept. I will definitely use again when we are ready for the Master Bedroom!
