We are a family of five, with three young kids—an almost 8-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, and a 2.5-year-old girl—and often have two additional adults in the home (a grandparent and a nanny). Our home is busy, so we need a functional and comfortable space that also feels fresh and inviting. We love neutral, calming shades with pops of seasonal color and aim for a transitional style that blends my love for farmhouse design with my husband’s preference for modern aesthetics.

Design Brief
Our priority is creating a kid-friendly, comfortable space that accommodates our active family and frequent guests. The living room will be a cozy spot for unwinding at the end of the day, complete with comfortable furniture, throw blankets, and decor that complements the natural light and outdoor views. The design will balance practicality with style, blending farmhouse and modern elements to create a cohesive, welcoming space for everyday life and entertaining.
Watching Design Experts at Work
This was our first time using Spacejoy, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Our designer, Mala, took the time to truly understand what we needed. After a phone call where we shared our vision, she created concepts that perfectly captured what we were looking for. Her expertise made such a difference, especially since we were struggling to furnish our new open-concept living and dining room.
Designer Notes
Hello Shruti! Here is the revised design for you. I have adjusted the room model and accordingly did the space planning and furniture layout. Incorporation of all furniture items and some of the accessories have been made according to our discussion. I have kept spaces all throughout to freely walk around and so that it still has an openness. Using the Spacejoy App to Experience Designs in 3D
With our new open-concept layout, it was hard to imagine how everything would come together, but the app made it so much easier. Not only did Mala’s designs look amazing, but the 3D team even refined them further to ensure accuracy.Seeing the room in 3D gave us a realistic feel for how the furniture would fit and function in our space, making the entire process much less overwhelming.

The photorealistic images and 3D renders were absolutely stunning. They gave us a clear and detailed vision of how our space will look once everything is in place. It’s one thing to imagine a design, but seeing it so vividly made all the difference. We’re so excited for our renovation to be completed so we can purchase the pieces as planned and bring this vision to life

Excellent design and service This was our first time using Spacejoy and we are so glad to have found it. We are in the midst of a renovation and we have a new open concept living and dining room which we found challenging to furnish. Our designer Mala reached out and we spoke by phone so she had a really good idea of what we were looking for. She submitted her amazing concepts and then the 3D team even redid our designs to be more accurate. I can’t wait till our renovation is done and I can buy the pieces as planned. The support team is also incredibly helpful. The purchasing team even called me on a long weekend to make sure they got my order right. They deserve the 5 stars!
