I bought this for a wedding gift for a very sophisticated young woman, it is a terrific multi purpose bowl.

The bowl was to be a gift for a newly retired couple who had just moved into their new home. They loved it immediately! But then we all started smelling something. The odor was odd and unpleasant, and was definitely coming from the wood. I heard later they returned it and exchanged it for something else, which was fine. Crate and Barrel has so many beautiful items, I knew they would find a perfect replacement.

I purchased this bowl at the Atlanta store. It had sold through and I found one there. I have had it less than a year. It still has the smoky smell. Last evening we heard a loud crack in the great room. We couldn’t find anything until we sat down to dinner this evening and noticed the bowl, which was at the center of the table. I can NOT BELIEVE this. I searched everywhere for it and to have this happen is unbelievable. This was my absolute favorite of all my large wood bowls and I am very skeptical of buying another.

This bowl is beautiful but it smells terrible. The first day it made the entire house smell like a forest fire. I promptly left it outside for 2 days to air out - it didn’t make a difference. I then bought coffee beans per the reviews on here and left them in the bowl for 4 days and the smell, while not as strong, is still there. Again, I love the look of it, but wow this is a lot of work.

This centerpiece bowl is elegant. It’s the perfect size for my table that has 8 seats.

This bowl in the photo appears to have a richer tone, appears to be buffed or polished and appears to be deeper and thinner. None of the above is true. The bowl I got has a totally different, rougher vibe. I kept it anyway and use it as a fruit bowl---not a centerpiece bowl.
