• We decided to try something different with this: a mid-century living room with a retro twist.
• We love the bright colors and the quirkiness of retro and we’ve represented that in this retro living room, through bright colors that offset the Earthy tones.
• This Green and Yellow living room has all the elements of color that it needs without making it overwhelming. The stand out green wall really uplifts the palette with a little bit of brightness.
• Along with the Retro vibes, this is a mid-century urban living room as well which means that there is going to be a certain amount of emphasis on function. We’ve definitely kept that in mind while putting together the design but the fun part is that even though all the pieces have a purpose, they add a great deal to the aesthetics of the urban living room as well.
• The Crosby 2-piece modular sectional from HOM furniture is grand and it’s ideal for the living room providing lots of space for people to sit. The Crosby charcoal Gray Ottoman also from HOM furniture is a great extension of the sectional.
• You’ll find some industrial themed pieces in this mid-century living room as well like the Shearwater arched floor lamps from Wayfair, flanking the sectional from both sides. The ladder bookshelf from West Elm which is a trending piece and is great for storage & display purposes and the Tishie floating shelves from All Modern are “Bare” essentials and is yet another example of creative storage spaces.
• The Nolan entryway bench from West Elm and the basic yet super functional curtains and curtain rods are typical of a mid-century living room as well.
• The twist comes with the decor elements and the accessories that we’ve used, which takes this mid-century living room to a retro living room.
• The textured and striped throw pillows from West Elm and Wayfair that have been placed on the sectional are in fun colors. The combination of Orange, Yellow & Dusty Pink makes the sectional pop even more.
• The Yellow Araceli Armchair and the Breuer tufted 2-piece Pouf set in Green adds a touch of whimsy & color to the room.
• Last but not the least, in this mid-century living room you’ll find that we’ve incorporated some interesting pieces of art that have a retro flair. We’re talking about the Mustard geo framed graphic wall art from Wayfair, the Hexagon cluster framed art from West Elm and the Gold area rug from also from Wayfair (even though this is not typical ‘art’ hanging on the wall, we think that the pattern on it sure makes it one).
